The Military & Family Readiness is the cornerstone of the Tyndall AFB family support system. We are here to assist our military community with many free resources to help with every stage of life. Whether it’s financial classes, resume building, or helping during the tough stages of life after loss, the M&FR is here for you.

We service our active duty military members and their dependents, Guard and Reserve members and their dependents, retired military personnel and their dependents, and DoD civilians.

+ Air Force Aid Society (AFAS)

The Air Force Aid Society's mission is to relieve the distress of Air Force members and their families and assist in financial aspects of their education. The Air Force Aid Society provides emergency financial aid for:

  • Basic Maintenance (food, shelter, utilities, etc.)
  • Emergency Maintenance of Essential Vehicle
  • Funeral Expenses/Emergency Leave
  • AFAS also provides the following programs - Education Grant, Give Parents a Break, and Bundles for Babies

+ Employment Assistance

Employment Assistance supports eligible family members and transitioning military members, retired members, and (DoD) civilians in achieving short and long-term employment, education/training, and career goals.

M&FRC provides employment skills counseling to prepare for careers in the private and public sectors, offering local labor market information, employment trend tracking, skills and interests identification, skills development workshops, job search assistance, alternatives to paid employment, networks for employment contacts, and other on-and off-base resources.

+ Air Force Families Forever (AFFF)

The Air Force Families Forever mission is to provide resources, support and information to help families adapt to life without their loved ones. Air Force Families Forever takes a proactive approach in supporting families throughout the force, no matter where they are, with the level of support and assistance directly tied to the specific needs of the families.

+ Gold Star Families

Air Force Gold Star Airmen fall under the umbrella of the AFFF survivor support program but are further defined as Active Duty status or Active Duty for training status, who lost their life on or after 18 Sep 1947 while engaged in action against an enemy of the US; while engaged in military operations involving conflict with an opposing foreign force; while serving with friendly forces engaged in an armed conflict in which the US is not a belligerent party against an opposing armed force; or after 28 March 1973, as a result of an international terrorist attack against the US or a foreign nation friendly to the US, recognized as such an attack by the Secretary of Defense; or military operations while serving outside the US (including the commonwealths, territories, and possessions of the US) as part of a peacekeeping force.

GOLD STAR FAMILY MEMBER DEFINITION & ELIGIBILITY

GSFMs fall under the umbrella of the AFFF survivor support program and follow the IAW DoDI 1348.36 designation for Gold Star Lapel Pins, “…the widow (remarried or not); widower (remarried or not); each parent (mother, father, stepmother, stepfather, mother through adoption, father through adoption, and foster parents who stood in loco parentis); each child; each brother; each sister; each half-brother; each half-sister; each stepchild; and each adopted child of a Service member...”.

+ Military Family Life Counselor (MFLC)

MFLCs are available to listen and help service members, spouses, family members, and children address the following non-medical stressors:

  • Deployment/Reintegration
  • Marriage and Relationships
  • Parenting/Sibiling & Family Problems
  • Communication Challenges
  • Stress and Anxiety

+ Personal Financial Readiness (PFR)

Personal Financial Readiness offers information, education and personal financial counseling to help military members and their families maintain financial stability and reach their financial goals. Personal Financial Managers offer information and programs on:

  • Investing Basics
  • Budgeting
  • Insurance
  • Auto Buying
  • Free Carfax
  • Free Credit Score
  • Debt Management
  • Home Buying Basics

+ Relocation Assistance

Relocation Assistance assists members and their dependents with:

  • Sponsor Training (mandatory for all sponsors who have not completed the training in the past 12 months)
  • Information and assistance to new arrivals
  • Helpful internet resources including: Installation Information, Moving, and Sponsor Training

+ Volunteer Resources

+ Personal/Work Life

Personal/Work Life services enrich and improve the quality of individual and family life by providing the knowledge and skills needed for effective living. PW&L programs include:

  • Heart Link - an orientation for military spouses of less than 5 years
  • Key Spouse - an official "Unit Family Readiness Program" that supports Airmen and their families by providing peer-to-peer network support to unit spouses

+ Casualty Assistance Representative (CAR)

The CAR provides benefit counseling and assistance to the next of kin or other eligible beneficiaries of a deceased member, as well as assists the next of kin with claim applications for monetary benefits. Please call 850.283.4204 for more information.

+ Survivor Benefit Plan Counselor (SBP)

The SBP Counselor informs each retiring member and spouse, if applicable, of the options and effects of SBP as it applies to each individual circumstance. They also explain how SBP operates, its role in estate planning and the possible consequences of not enrolling.

+ Transition Assistance

Transition Assistance assists separating or retiring military members transitioning into civilian life through information and programs on:

  • Job Search Techniques
  • VA Benefits Briefings
  • Mandatory Pre-Separation Counseling
  • Individual Transition Plans (ITP)
  • TAP curriculum (class)

+ Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP)

The EFMP provides non-medical community/family support to enhance the quality of life of Tyndall's special needs families. The EFMP Program provides information and referral to both on and off base special needs resources. The program is designed to listen, support, advise, educate and navigate the EFMP process. The program offers:

  • Exceptional Family Member Camps
  • Respite Care
  • Special Education Information
  • Local Community Resources
  • Awareness of Base Resources

+ Voting Assistance Program (VAP)

VAP is a program to assist Active Duty personnel and their family members with access to the Installation Voter Assistance Office (IVAO) to register and vote either at the polls or by the absentee ballot. Update current address with state officials using the Federal Post Card Application (FPCA).
